The best way to treat a salt bridge is to use a long piece of wood to carefully push down on the top of the solidified salt. The only way in which to solve the problem of salt sludge is to completely clean out the brine tank by digging out the used salt and adding fresh salt.

Also, avoid putting too much salt in the brine tank, overfilling the tank will decrease the quality of the water that is produced.
